Why I am opening a gym
My name is Tia Wright, I’ve been teaching group fitness classes for 12 years and working for other gym owners meanwhile absorbing all of the ins and outs of the micro-gym business model. I’m a well known coach because of my reputation as an athlete, and I’m very passionate about fitness. I wake up with a daily drive to improve people’s lives through physical and mental health, and I am also passionate about providing an experience to help make fitness fun.
My inspiration to own a gym is hugely cultivated by my frustration of working for gym owners and even attending other gyms that were disappointing. For example, just dropping into a gym a week ago and the man working didn’t know how to charge me or sign me up which led to chains of texts and emails to get me a membership that I still didn’t have a week later.
Micro gyms (smaller group fitness gyms 100-500 members) may have an awesome community but they lack basic business methods such as cleaning systems, sales systems, customer management, culture leadership and development, staff standards and clear roles, or even a plan to scale and grow the business. I’m creating a gym that simply doesn’t exist because there are no gym owners doing it the way I will do it. This gym I’m building will be a leader in the industry as the new standard for how to own, run, and manage micro gyms.
We will be excellent and elite in every aspect of the business: culture, customer service, coaching, branding, marketing, and of course getting our clients results. My specialty is teaching coaches how to coach. Which includes teaching the staff to be ‘people experts’, to be relational, kind, professional, and effective at improving movement, as well as group management. Our facility will be top notch, laid out ergonomically for class standardization and efficiency. And our clients will identify with our brand on an emotional level, we will be a part of their daily lives.
This is a gym where people redefine what they know about fitness. They fall in love all over again with the process of getting fitter because we aren’t your normal group fitness class or even a CrossFit gym. We are a fitness facility that knocks down the barriers of entry for people no matter their physical abilities. We will have expert coaches trained to lead our structured classes and provide an experience that is the best hour of our member’s day.
Our mission is to improve community health through group fitness classes by providing an excellent service that makes people want to come workout.
Our fitness methodologies are a combination of weightlifting, powerlifting, intensity interval training, free weights (dumbbells), body weight gymnastics (pullups, air squats, pushups, sit-ups), and conditioning (running, rowing, biking). Each workout will be different daily which keeps it fun and helps diversify the fitness. Members will see results faster because they’ll be working on all of the key physical skills of fitness. A 60 minute class at Culture will include a 10 minute warmup, 15-20 minutes of strength training, and 15-20 minutes of high intensity circuit training. The gaps between these time allotments are filled with group teaching, 1-on-1 work, and also set up and break down.
All fitness levels are welcome because the workout is scalable and can be modified to fit anyone’s specific abilities. Scaling down a workout and modifying a workout for our members is one of the many ways we will set ourselves apart from our competitors. Our coaches will be uniquely skilled in their abilities to scale a workout for any level. This assures that our classes are safe and enjoyable no matter who may come to class.
The culture here is what drives home the incredible experience. This experience will be created and sculpted by me (Tia Wright), the owner, and eventually upheld by the managers and the coaches. Our coaches will know how to navigate building strong and empathetic relationships with each member the moment they try a class for the first time, and their coaching skills will accommodate any personality type we may encounter with kindness, and acceptance. Members will be able to rely on the gym to motivate them, and inspire them to be the best version of themselves.
